The Designer

Nita Kurian is a designer who has worked with global clients in fashion, art and design in the past. She has done a lot of research across a variety of mediums: igniting imagination to mix different inspirations, always retaining our traditional techniques and ancient values.

An alumnus of NIFT Chennai,Nita’s foray into fashion began working for international clientele developing embroideries re-configuring age old techniques, that punctuated the couture shows of some of the most prestigious fashion houses. She also had the opportunity to mentor interns from the renowned colleges in India, Milan, Paris& London.

In the past, she has collaborated in writing, designing embroideries and producing a coffee table books,retelling ancient fables and folklore in a modern way, illustrated with hand embellishments.

Treating visual arts and world of literature as interrelated conceptual vignettes, combining her training in both the fields, staying true to the artistic progression than the end result,informs the way she works.

She was also a collaborator inthe prestigious Malayalam project at the Kochi Muziris Biennale; she had usedthe age old art of hand embroidery as a medium to interpret Sethumadhavan’s Malayalam novel ‘Pandavapuram.’
